GDU [GreatDanesUSA] was created because of my first Dane "puppy-hunt", my quest to find Leedo.

I started searching for a Great Dane puppy near the last part of 2002, and I am happy to say that I found him! Thanks to Everett Van Dyken [www.valinorgreatdanes.com], I am now the proud owner of a Black Male Great Dane named “Leedo”.

The need for this web site was demonstrated to me as a result of my own quest to find Leedo.

At first, I spent a lot of time on the internet reading about health, nutrition, proper living requirements and puppy products. 

Then when I set out to look for my new puppy, I wanted him "Now". I found out quickly that trying to find a puppy was difficult. I soon realized that once I decided on color, sex, etc.... my options for finding a breeder with that kind of puppy in a litter "Now” became very limited.

Those of you with your own web page[s] or web site, this . . . . was . . . . WONDERFUL, especially to a person like myself who was looking for a puppy.  Seeing your information about a litter on the web allowed me to prepare and email questions that weren't covered. I found some sites especially helpful during the first 8 weeks of the puppy's life when Breeders posted pictures of the puppy's online for interested owners to view them. This cut out a lot of the emailing process....time it takes to write them, send them and read them and the "Ooops, here it is again, I forgot to attach it" accidents that happens to all of us.

I sent A LOT of emails to many of you who did not have such sites with information about myself and a long list of questions inquiring about your existing or future litters. For those of you who “promoted” your litter, I am sure my email wasn't the only one you received. It may have been one of the 10's if not 100's of emails that you read and responded to.

I am the web-coordinator at my company where we are wholesalers and sellers of adventure/ leisure travel packages. I found some great Great Dane web sites out there as a result of my puppy-hunt experience but I also came to wonder:

1. Why I couldn’t find that one web site that had general information about the Great Dane Breed including breeder lists, litter announcements, Great Dane travel services, Web services etc.

2. How many emails like mine asked Breeders the same questions over and over?

3. How much time Breeders spend in their incredibly busy day responding to all these emails?

4. Why don’t more breeders have their own web site?

I know in the travel business the answers we most often hear from travel agents are:

1. We are not web developers
2. We think it is difficult
3. We think it costs a lot of money

So I decided to apply our “web” solutions for the travel business to link the Great Dane community together as well as offer web sites or web pages to Breeders that don't have them !

I hope you will find this web site helpful for everyone . . . breeders, owners and Dane lovers.... but adding content to my site depends on you and your level of interest!

Second, we can help you design your own web site.

Third, if you prefer a web page for a short period of time, i.e. to announce and sell a litter, we also provide that option.

And, please send us photos of your dane[s] so we can post them on the site!
